We caught up with Blake Davis, driver of the LUBE-A-BOOM #47 UMP Modified, to talk shop before he hits the road this race season.     

What are you most looking forward to this year?

“I’m most looking forward to making new memories in the garage and on the track with my family and friends. I have a great group beside me, and we always have a lot of fun working on the car and doing what we can at the track. Every race is different and brings with it new problems to solve, we like that.”

What are your goals for this season?

“I’d love to compete in every race at Circle City Raceway for a chance at the Track Championship. It’s a fun track!”

What advice would you give to someone breaking into the sport this season?

“Spend time with someone who is knowledgeable about the sport and knows what goes into setting up a competitive car. Soak up all the knowledge you can before going out on your own and never stop learning.”

What are the top three non-obvious items you always have with you at the track?

#1 LUBE-A-WIPES!

“The reason I like LUBE-A-WIPES is because using them doesn’t require a sink. My hands are constantly dirty working on the racecar with lots of lubricated parts at a dirt racetrack. I’m always amazed that they seem to take off anything I get on my hands. I’ve also found many other uses for these. I use them to remove dirt and grease from various racecar equipment and machines and tools around the shop and trailer.”

#2 My setup book.

“I have a notebook I use to document my car setup and the how the changes I make impact my car’s performance. It’s been a great tool for me over the years and it’s helpful to reference when setting up for the next race.”  

#3 A gas station pickle.

“You know, the big ones in the bags. Pickles help ease cramps. My muscles often get cramped up working on my car all day and night and running around in the pits. There have been times my papaw has handed me a pickle to eat under my helmet in the lineup shoot.”

Blake and the LUBE-A-BOOM race team will kick off the season in April at Circle City Raceway in LUBE-A-BOOM’s backyard (Indianapolis, IN). The team plans to frequent Circle City Raceway, Bloomington Speedway, Brownstown Speedway, and others.
